The main objective of rehydration is:

  • Added water to the body

  • Replenish lost electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chlorides)

  • Compensate the loss of energy (glucose)

For the purposes of rehydration, oral rehydration solutions are used (Rehydration Oral Solution - ORS). It has precisely defined composition that meets the requirements of modern medicine.

Specific European conditions corresponds best with composition recommended by ESPGHAN.

What rehydratation means?

  • Rehydration is a medical procedure whose task is to replace lost amount of liquids, salts and nutrients to the body.

Why we should rehydrate?

  • During diarrhea, fever or vomiting, your body loosing water, electrolytes and energy.

For early recovery and elimination of complications is necessary to deliver these substances back to the body.

  • Rehydration solution should be provided for this purpose, but with well-defined composition only.

For children rehydration strictly avoid to use coke, fruit juice or tea.

ORS types

WHO Solution

Rehydration suitable for adults with the composition recommended by the World Health Organisation. Particularly is suitable mostly for developing countries, where dehydration is a common life-threatening factor. Its formula does not take into account the specificities of the European population, especially children.

ESPGHAN Solution

is a solution with the composition recommended by the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN). From the WHO solution it differs by composition adapted to the needs of the European pediatric population.

Enhydrol®

corresponds to the composition of the solution ESPGHAN

Rehydratation for kids

Main necessities:

1

Constantly monitoring the condition of the patient (symptoms of dehydration). In case of deterioration seek for medical help.

2

Serving the ESPGHAN ORS (Enhydrol®) cooled using a teaspoon.

3

To achieve that a child do not refuse to accept the solution.

4

Natural banana flavor of Enhydrol® helps children to better solution intake. This pure and natural flavor component is designed not to affect the composition or osmolality of the solution.

Never flavors ORS by syrups or fruit juices, you will disrupt the accurate composition.

Acute diarrheal disease of infants and toddlers should always be evaluated by a medical doctor as well as severely ongoing disease of older children. Your doctor will assess the degree of dehydration and general condition of the patient.
